Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner

How I can help

If you or someone you care for has a disability as well as concerning or harmful behaviour, specialised positive behaviour support may help reduce those behaviours and improve quality of life. A Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner works to understand what contributes to behaviours that are problematic for a person or those around them. To do this, they talk to the person and those who know them well and they may read about their skills and life experiences. The practitioner then sets out to develop a Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP), which sets out the adaptations, activities and skills that may help the person experience less distress, engage in fewer behaviours that cause them problems and experience a more fulfilling life. The practitioner guides the implementation of the plan and adjusts it as needed, constantly working collaboratively with the person and key stakeholders.
